This week

To recap this wonderful week:

On Tuesday,we decided to prolong our anniversary,and we went to an amazing Italian restaurant on Halsted,called Sapori Trattoria.Everything was fresh,even the pasta.Vincent had a plate of prosciutto,fish soup,brushetta and a small plate of pasta,and I had the amazing freshly made lobster ravioli.For desert we shared the tiramisu.....delightful.....

On Thursday we went to our favorite Columbian restaurant Las Tablas,where we had a caprihana each (waaay too strong for me) and a nice bottle of our favorite Don Cano,and a wonderful meat plate....Got a little too much liqour in me,and ended up lying in bed all day Friday! (kinda nice!)

This morning,we decided to start a new tradition,which is to get up,buy the weekend newspapers,make a nice breakfast ( croissants,eggs,fresh orange juice,tea and a nice espresso to finish it all off) which is what we did...as you can see from the picture,it was delightful.....

Yes,it has been exactly 2years since we had our very first date at The Gingerman...(July26 2008)

So here are a few mementos of our 2years! and many more to come.....

At 6pm tonight,as we do every year,we will be having a beer together at the Gingerman....

Sunday

After we woke up on Sunday (when we were done blogging and reading!) we decided to go on our usual Sunday 30mile bikeride.Afterwards we had a nice cold Ayinger beer and fries at Bar on Buena.All in all,a very relaxed Sunday.

Perfect Evening

Last night,Vincent and I decided to try out a lovely eclectic bistro around the corner from us called "Firefly"

We sat outside on the patio,right on the corner of Halsted and Buckingham,and watched the lovely boys strut their stuff,whilst I was sipping on a wonderful Bordeaux,and Vincent sipped on a cocktail called a "Sidecar",which,I must say,was quite resplendent.

We both had the steak frites with bearnaise and haricots verts,cooked to perfection,and for desert...oh my god,the scrumptious waiter recommended the beignets.....I think both Vincent and I died and went to heaven when we had our first taste......

The entire meal was a true ambrosia.

Ok...here is a pic of me,on the hottest day of the year (according to the newspapers here...) I think they said it is 108 degrees (which is about 45NL graden...)

HOT...and I was the nitwit that went on a 30mile bikeride this morning....

Puddy Love

After a hard's day work,Vincent relaxed in bed...and Alain Delon decided to give daddy some love....aaaah how sweet are these pics!....

Rice,Rain and Blackberries

On Sunday,I took Vincent on my 30mile bikeride,which was amazing....Vincent loved it!...When we got to the halfway point at Hyde Park,we had lunch at an amazing Southen restaurant called "Big Easy",where we had Stella's,Gumbo and BBQ chicken.....on the way home,about a mile and a half away from Elaine Place,the skies suddenly changed from sunny to DARK.....(typical Chicago) and it started pouring,thunder,rainstorms...You name it,it came out of the sky.....Vincent had my ( or so I thought) "waterproof" backpack on his back,with our blackberries.....

When we got home,I opened up the backpack....and it had about an inch of rainwater in it,and our blackberries were sloshing around in it....

So I quickly took out the batteries,and then googled "wet blackberries" real quick,and found out that if you put the blackberries in a sealed pot of uncooked rice,in a warm place for 3days,it should dry them out.....so I put the sealed pot of rice with the blackberries in the oven.(No,not turned on you nitwits....)

I will give you an update on Wednesday....in the meantime,I got our old phones out,and thank Budha,our simcards still worked,so we can still communicate,albeit on "old" phones....

Oh,the technology of today.....I am felling old and creakely......

So after having dug out the old digital camera,I found these photos of the puddies....kinda scary!

Our new wedding rings

After having been married for 7 months,it was time to get our official wedding rings....We finally found our perfect rings...LOVE THEM!.....

AIRCO!

We have cracked.....albeit it was more for the puddies than us....We have been watching the weather forecasts for a while....and it was going to reamin hot,muggy and humid (eg: 95 degrees or 42 graden for NL....) for the next week,so we decided to save the boys from becoming puddy roast,and went to Home Depot at 6am on Saturday morning,to buy a portable airconditioning unit...we got the last one (and this at 6am!!!) but had to fork out $450.....However it was worth it....the monster machine is keeping the entire apartment and the puddies nice and cool....we definitely see a difference in the puddies,they are playing and running again,and Vincent slept like a baby underneath his blankie last night.....Oh....and what a handyman my husband is!......

Hungry and hot

The other day,it was soooo hot in the apartment ( 91 degrees...NL:42 graden...) so I decided to give myself a treat at 10am,and enjoyed my 3 favorite things:Good expensive cheese,Excellent bread,and a nice glass of red wine......

Good Looking

For all of you out there....my husband does not always walk around in his little gray shorts....He does clean up very nicely!.....Love him xoxoxo

Mmmm Lekker....

MMmmmm...my husband is cooking his wonderful pasta dish tonight...under the watchful eye of Dieudone.....Mmmm lekker!

NO.MORE.ORANGE..........

I have seen grown Dutch men and scheitkokers cry yesterday when the final whistle was blown...Vincent and I have decided to never believe in any sports team that has the nerve to wear Orange,and play so awful....that way we can never be disappointed again....I stopped drinking beer at half time,but Vincent just kept on going....see the picture of our table with the beers...and the picture of Vincent below,after the game.....but the man that he is,he cycled home,no problems!.....Love him!

FINAL World Cup

On our way to the Sedgwick bar at 9am to have breakfast,beer and watch the Dutch win the WorldCup with all the other Dutchies in Chicago.........

Wine,Friends and Heat

Enjoying a nice bottle of wine,good Italian food at Santonini in the Reguliersdwarsstraat in Amsterdam,lovely crewmembers......and this picture was taken a few minutes before NL beat Brazil in the world cup......Yes....that's why I am still a flight attendant after 24years....Life is good.

Pete's and KJ's Birthday

Last night it was Pete's 49th and KJ's 42nd birthday (our friends from The Duke,our pub) and we had a lovely time,good food,good friends,good beer....Life is good...
