Obamarama

Early today,I decided to go for another 30mile bike ride.....and on the way home,the lakefront bikepath was suddenly blocked off by the cops......Becasue Obama was departing Chicago,and apparently the bikepath was right in his way.......so whilst we all laid in the grass by the lake,waiting for Mr President to go by (about 5miles from us,by the way!) the poor cop's car started to catch fire.....

When we were given the all clear,the skies suddenly turned from sunny to black,gusty,stormy and a major thunderstorm erupted.....but I had to get home,and kept on peddling....finally made it home,soaked and in pain,as biking in torrential rain and a windgust of about a hundred was exhausting!....but I made it!

Tomorrow Vincent is coming home!!!!!!

Bike ride part1

Today I decided to go on a bike ride along the lake,as my love was so far away.....

I ended up biking a total of 30miles,all the way to Hyde Park and back.....It was fantastic!....As you can see from the photos in part 2,the Chicago skyline is in the far distance (taken from 57st street exit in Hyde Park) and then I slowly took photos of the skyline,as I was getting closer to home!......

Can't feel my knees anymore.....

My love off to Amsterdam

Vincent decided to spend the long weekend in Amsterdam,so he could spend it with his wonderful family,so after we all had lunch with his colleagues from work (lots of margarita's....) I took him to the airport,and he got a nice First Class seat (seniority counts for something!) and off he went to the motherland......I am not sure how I got home (the "L" and bus I think!) and collapsed in bed.....

Vincent arrived safely,and he is now having a wonderful dinner with the family.....I am going for a bike ride along the lake.....the boys and I are missing Vincent................

Ear wax

I was told by Dr Ramirez,that I had too much "earwax" in my ears,and if i did not remove it,I would be going deaf.....(according to Vincent,that ain't a bad thing!....) and since doctors in Illinois can not remove earwax,I had to do it myself........NOT fun!.....I actually had Vincent do it first,just to make sure I wasn't doing it the wrong way......and now I can hear again!

Heart Healthy

Yesterday I went back to NorthWestern Hospital,to get an Echo-Stress/EKG test done on my heart...As heart disease and clogged arteries runs deep in my family (thank you Van Der Vlugt and Samson!)I thought it was about time to make sure MY arteries were not clogged,as I really want to grow old in New Orleans with Vincent....

First I had a nurse (male) put on about 25 sensors on my chest....and then on the table,and they took these AMAZING sonograms of my heart.....never seen anything like it....seeing my heart beat like that!

Then I was put on the treadmill (in a lovely hospital gown....now that was a sight to be seen!) and I was running until my heart rate was up to 190......then straight back on the table for more sonograms (apparently thats how they measure the opening of my arteries) A cardiologist comes by,and takes a look at the before and after sonograms,and Thank Budha,I was told I have a beautiful and healthy heart and unclogged arteries!

I also got my blood test results back from Dr Ramirez,and I am as healthy as can be.....Good to know!

Came home and celebrated with Vincent with homemade margarita's......Now I need to get Vincent to get his cholesterol checked......

Ons aapje heeft het heel erg warm!......Of course us being Dutch,we refuse to have airconditioning (bad for your health!) so Alain did what he had to do,to stay cool!...Today I am buying a bag of icecubes and putiing bowls of cold water around the apartment.......

Picnic

Today we got some wine,bread,cheese,pate and grapes,got our 2 chairs and pillows,and our books,and headed off to Montrose Harbor for a picnic.....Both Vincent and I stayed covered up,due to his latest scare with skin cancer,besides,we don't really care for a crisp brown skin!....It ended up being 89degrees (about 27graden voor NL!) A lovely day for a picnic by the lake!

Mammograms and Indian food

Yesterday I got lucky enough to get an appointment at one of the best hospitals for Women's Health,to get a mammogram...NorthWestern....what an amazing hospital....Just my annual test,no worries...(Can't believe its my 4th one allready...time flies when you're having fun!)

Afterwards,I took Vincent for Indian food,he said that he never had Indian food before,so I took him to Hema's kitchen,a little place with authentic Indian food....He of course ordered the chicken Vindaloo,in honor of Dave Lister (Red Dwarf...) and he LOVED it......and they deliver...so you know what my man is going to do when I am flying....playing Halo and eating chicken Vindaloo!!!

Company party

On Thursday,Vincent's work people had to throw a business lunch downtown,and they were kind enough to invite me.....After the luncheon,we all got together at the hotel bar,and had a good time,talking,drinking and nominating Manny for our next president!

Vincent really has a wonderful group of colleagues,what a change from his last job....Lucky dog!

Jury Duty

So today I had to report for "jury duty"...Yes the good ole USA has a trial by jury system,unlike the rest of the world,here a poor defendant get his/her lot decided by dumb ole Joe Schmo....and dumb they are....My god,was I the only Juror,questioning the judge?....

Anyway,I got there early (had to pee like a pregnant lesbian) and after sitting in a "juror room" for 3hrs,we finally get let into a court room,to get picked for....(drumroll please...) Retail Theft...I was pissed...apparently the poor guy got caught stealing tools at a large "depot"...(can not mention any names...but you get the drift...) so when it was my turn,I told the judge that I had a very strong dislike for Corporate America,suing poor black people,I hated lawyers,and was an Atheist....(all true) and withing 5mins I was dismissed from jury duty and got my $17.......

New hair

Both Vincent and I decided to get our haircut yesterday....and the cheapskates that we are,we went to Supercuts.....and they did a really food job....I decided I wanted bangs for the summer...and voila....

Lekker Gourmetten

Mmmmmm....last night we decided to "Gourmet"...a Dutch way of eating all kinds of meats and seafood on an indoor grill......Zoooo Lekker!

Too many old fashions?!.....

So Vincent took Friday off,and we decided to go for a stroll,found a nice second bookstore, browsed,and decided we were hungry and thirsty....and ended up at The Duke.....Of course Kim,our favorite bartender was working.....and my poor Vincent did not feel so good the next day!....Ha ha!....I learned my lesson,and kept to beers......

To make him feel better,I took my man for lunch to Benihana's (albeit we had to drive to the dreaded "Burbs"....but anything to cheer up my love!)

I must say,my first experience at Benihana's yesterday was amazing,and I am now in love with the concept...too bad they closed the one downtown.....

Dexter

So I spend the entire day in bed watching a marathon of "Dexter" (my favorite serial killer) and its 5pm now,and Vincent is on his way home,to take me out for dinner.....I need RED MEAT!......

Nasi Goreng

I finally have a month off (NO....did not get fired again!...these are my hard earned vacation days!) So after having slept for 2days straight,I am finally human again...I think....

Tonight I am going to attempt to make a simple Nasi Goreng....on my last trip to Amsterdam,I bought the ingredients,so we shall see what I make of it...

De Hosjes

So I am at De Hosjes in Amstelveen on my 24hrs layover....The lovely Ria and Frank are giving me plenty of wine and are cooking my favorite meal (again!) aardappeltjes met karbonaatjes!...MMMM lekker!......I love de Hosjes......
